What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a simple process that helps you to quiet and focus your mind in order to create a link between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind.

It feels much like the moments when you are just falling asleep -- your mind and body are relaxed, but you are aware of what is happening around you.

In much the same way as a computer is programmed we programme ourselves throughout our lives to believe many things about what we can and can’t do.  Hypnotherapy can change the programme and these changes are made by the hypnotherapist suggesting ideas and concepts to your subconscious and allowing your subconscious to decide if these ideas and concepts would be useful to you.

What might happen during a session?

The therapist will take the time to talk to you and find out as much as possible about the changes you want to make. When you are ready the therapist will ask you to find a comfortable position and then close your eyes—this is to help prevent you from becoming distracted by the surroundings and to allow you to move your focus inward.

The therapist will then begin to encourage you into the relaxed state that leads to the hypnotic state. At this stage the therapist will begin to help you make the changes you want in your life.

When the session is over the therapist will bring you back to your normal wakeful awareness and you should feel relaxed.

Remember - you cannot be forced into a hypnotic trance nor can you be forced to remain in a trance state.

You are aware of what is happening at all times and you remain in control
